ESS Notes

• Single POI in main panel.
• PV system must have dedicated breaker in gateway.
• Battery isolating disconnect required.
• A disconnecting means shall be provided for all ungrounded conductors derived from an ESS and shall be permitted to be integral to listed ESS equipment.
• ESS - Must maintain 3' spacing between batteries.

The disconnecting means shall comply with all of the following:

• The disconnecting means shall be readily accessible.
• The disconnecting means shall be located within sight of the ESS. Where it is impractical to install the disconnecting means within sight of the ESS, the disconnect shall be installed as close as practicable, and the location of the disconnecting means shall be field marked on or immediately adjacent to the ESS. The marking shall be of sufficient durability to withstand the environment involved and shall not be handwritten.
• The disconnecting means shall be lockable open in accordance with 110.25.
• For one-family and two-family dwellings, a disconnecting means or its remote control shall be located at a readily accessible location outside the building.
• If using lug feed to gateway provide photo of label showing lug kit # or spec sheet for MPU.

Electrical Diagram

• Show the size of OCPDs in sub-panel(s) and MSP.
• Show that the sum of the ampere rating of all OCPDs on panels, both load and supply, excluding the rating of the main breaker protecting the MSP busbar does not exceed the ampacity of the busbar. CEC 705.12(B)((2)(c).
• If combining systems, only one PV breaker allowed.
• Bus certification REQUIRED if there is no panel sticker.

Per the AHJ building official they enforce the following types of tie ins:

• Sum of all breakers
• 120% rule (Breaker tie into the main)
• Line side tap IF the panel is listed. Otherwise, we do a GMA with SCE's approval of max 60a's.
• Two or more power sources must be on one single breaker at MSP. Per CEC 705.12(A) Each source interconnection of one or more power sources installed in one system shall be made at a dedicated circuit breaker or fusible disconnecting means.
• Per AHJ if MSP label is missing, provide a letter from a California Electrical Engineer indicating the maximum breaker that can be installed in the branch circuit. (BUS CERTS)
