Trico requires the use of "Polaris Taps" when tapping into the load side of the main breaker conductors. Include Polaris taps enclosed in a J box somewhere between the MSP and the fused disconnect switch.

System Offset Notes

Our current DG Energy Export Tariff states that the generating capacity must be less than or equal to 125% of the customer's total connected load. Connected load is determined by peak demand in the last 12 months. If the customer does not have 12 months usage they can install whatever system size but it cannot exceed 80% of the transformer size and this something that only Trico can double-check. It will be a part of their review process after we submit plans or our designer can request this info but they will need the customer account number and customer authorization before Trico will release the transformer info. Any system that is 10 kW or higher, will be sent to our design department for further review. (a) Class I - 50 kW or less, single or three-phase (b) Class II - 51 kW to 300 kW, three-phase (c) Class III - 301 kW to 5,000 kW, three-phase (d) Class IV - over 5,000 kW, three-phase

Plans & docs

Site Plan Reqs
  • Site plan must be submitted showing the overhead view of the facility (i.e., home) showing the location of the service entrance/utility meter, solar panels, inverter, PV meter, PV safety disconnect and PV (co‐generation) system utility disconnect. If the inverter is to be mounted inside a garage, that fact shall be stated on the drawings.
  • PV Equipment cannot be more than ten feet away from existing meter pedestal.
  • The production meter and disconnect cannot be under a shaded area
  • MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING ON THE SITE PLAN OR TRICO WILL REJECT PLANS: A measured written distance between the DG disconnect and meter pedestal or add note: DISCONNECT SWITCH IS WITHIN 10' OF THE MAIN SERVICE PANEL
  • Must label AC disconnect closest to MSP as utility disconnect
SLD Reqs
  • Customer related equipment is not allowed within the sealed sections of the service entrance equipment (MSP) All such equipment, such as Current Transformers (CTs), must be installed in the non sealed portion of the service entrance equipment.
  • Per Trico, they will not grant a variance on the 10 ft rule for the disconnect. If the customer has a MSP pedestal more than 10ft away from the house, Trico's recommendation would be to install a free standing post a foot or two away from the pedestal and mount the disconnect on it. All of the other equipment could be mounted on the house.
  • PLEASE NOTE If we have to add a second AC DISCO, the configuration must show the PV METER sandwiched in between both AC DISCO'S and the AC DISCO next to the MSP needs to be labeled "UTILITY AC DISCONNECT

Copy of plans should contain or state the following:

  • a. Contain the model number of the service panel. If the Main Service panel is a pedestal or not known, the following photos should be included with the application:
  1. Main Service Panel with cover
  2. Main Service Panel with cover removed full panel should be visible. If available, a photo of diagram within the Main Service Panel
  • b. Indicate the inverter brand, model, and operating characteristics.
  • c. Include the PV module brand and specifications.

  • NEEDS PRODUCTION METER: PV PRODUCTION METER, EATON-011
  • Trico prefers PV equipment to be located on the same side of fence of the MSP
  • If the project required DC Disconnect, Please use model HU361RB for each string.

Existing Systems

  • Systems will need to be combined before PV meter
  • Trico requires all dg production to be measured through 1 dg production meter. Please remove existing DG meter.

BATTERY

  • Disconnect required between MSP and gateway
  • Utility will reject the plans if wire size does not match what is installed in the field. Per the AZ Branch Production Manager, we install the AWG 8 (Wire Size (4) on the Conduit Schedule) for ALL battery systems.
  • Please make sure the Wire size from DER storage disco to DER storage mtr shows (4vAWG 8.)
  • Please have existing system and new system tie into one production meter
Electric Service Reqs

If Existing MSP is under a patio it will need to be relocated to be exterior.

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with Trico before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
