Net Excess Generation Notes

In any month they generate more electricity than they use, your customer will save or “bank” those kilowatt hours to be used the next month. They have 2 options to deal with their cumulative annual excess generation:

  • Option 1 Annual True Up: If your customer chooses Annual True Up every year on April 30, we will purchase any excess generation they have accumulated at Empire’s average wholesale energy price for the previous 12 months. That price is currently $0.04120/kWh but may change depending on what wholesale power prices do. This is the default option.
  • Option 2 Indefinite Roll Over: If your customer chooses Indefinite Roll Over any excess generation they have will roll forward until they close their account. At that time, your customer will forfeit any excess generation to Empire Electric and will receive no credit or compensation. If your customer would like to choose Indefinite Roll Over, please request the form.

Site Plan Reqs
  • You should show any existing utility equipment on your physical site plan along with proposed equipment and you will be notified at that time if you have put something where it shouldn’t be.
  • The distance from generator or inverter system to utility meter must be clearly indicated, and voltage drop calculations must be made if said distance is greater than 50 feet.
SLD Reqs

Electrical one line showing all components up to the utility meter

For a 6000 Inverter please use a 40A 2P Breaker. There is a shortage of 35A Breakers - 11.23.20

Add the Meter Form Number to the ELD. A photo showing the location of the Form number is in the files section.

Electric Service Reqs

Stand-alone meters must receive an MPU in Utah

Systems over 10 kW: EEA will require for all DER's greater than 10kW AC to have an accessible, visible, open disconnect device that is visibly marked "Generated Disconnect" and has the capability of isolating the energy generated by each DER.

The DER of 10 kW or less shall be required to provide:

1. A circuit breaker rated for the service to which it is applied;

2. A line voltage relay or equivalent control system functionality which will prevent the generator from being connected to a de- energized source;

3. Undervoltage and overvoltage relays or equivalent control system functionality;

4. Underfrequency and overfrequency relays or equivalent control system functionality;

5. A transformer dedicated to the service to which the DER is connected (for three phase inverter installations).

Taps: Per EEA Taps as allowed by NEC on the consumers side of the system is allowed (for example a feeder tap) as long as the state inspector is OK with them and they are made in a UL listed manner.

Install Reqs

Inverter settings must be set accurately. A screenshot of the "Status" page that shows the following must be uploaded as it's required for IX PTO Submission .

An example of these can be found in the files section.

System must remain off until PTO

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with EEA - Empire Electric Association before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
