Utility Disconnect Switch Placard Guidelines

  1. Placard Requirements
  • Location: Front cover of the utility disconnect switch (See Detail "A" in Electrical Standards).
  • Material: Non-ferrous metal or poly-plastic, UV-resistant, epoxy glued or riveted.
  • Labeling: Engraved or stamped, 1/4" high, white text on a red background.
  • No: Peel-and-stick labels, paint, or marker.
  1. When to Add Extra Placards
  • Multiple Meters: If there is more than one Tampa Electric meter, place this on the correct meter: "On-Site Generation"
  • More than 6 Feet Apart (or blocked by a fence/structure): "ON-SITE GENERATION UTILITY DISCONNECT SWITCH LOCATED 6 FEET TO THE RIGHT/LEFT OF METER"

  • TECO Standard Placards - Warehouse keeps these in stock.
  • TECO Custom Placards - Order from (Orlando):
  • For multiple disconnects (e.g., "1 of 2", "2 of 2").
  • If the disconnect is more than 6 feet from the meter.
  • Custom 6x8 Placards (for MSP and disconnect on opposite sides of the home) - Order from (Send site plans).
