"Residential (Schedule 1) and small commercial (Schedule 7) customers may connect a generation facility, with a total nameplate capacity of 25 kilowatts (kW) AC or less.

For inverter-based generation sources, the nameplate capacity is defined as the AC nameplate rating of the inverter."

Site Plan Reqs

The disconnect switch shall be located within 10-feet of the service meter and be accessible to Idaho Power employees at all times. If the switch cannot be located within 10-feet of the service meter or is not visible from the meter, a permanent placard at the service meter location must be provided that gives clear directions to the disconnect location

SLD Reqs
  • See SLD Sample
  • Idaho Power also requires an AC disconnect switch on the customer's side of the meter.
  • Line-side tap located behind meter. Connecting before main disconnect will keep production online with main disconnect off. If tap is located in meter base, there must be adequate wiring space and load-side lugs or connectors must be listed for this purpose.

Battery

  • Each battery requires a disconnect
  • For whole home batter back up, a service disconnect is required between the utility meter and gateway: a main breaker in the Gateway/Backup Interface will fulfill this requirement
  •  ID Power requires a separate AC Disconnect for the DER System, and a separate one for each of the Batteries
Electric Service Reqs

Transformer Upgrade Requirements "Upgrades are fairly uncommon. The feasibility review timeframe is a max of 7 business days. If it did not pass a recommendation would be provided that would allow it to pass. For example, a 10kW system was on the application was declined, but an adjustment to a 9.5kW would allow it to pass. If they choose to upgrade the transformer the timeframe for that would be dependent on the scheduling of field crew availability.

If the customer elects to have the transformer upgraded that would be billed to the customer. The fees would be collected first, the transformer would be upgraded, then the array installation could move forward.

The few customers that run up against an upgrade scenario often opt to downsize as they are not prepared to make an additional investment in a transformer upgrade. A new fee would not be required, but an amended application would need to be received and the new request would be sent for a final review.

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with Idaho Power (ID) before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
