  • PV production meter required between the AC disconnect switch and the existing utility meter.
  • Top of PV meter wired toward inverter, Bottom toward utility.
  • Wires from the bottom of the Production meter must connect to the source side (Top side) of the Utility meter with a Lugged Connection. See Projects 368482, 350568, 371600 for example. The only method of interconnection allowed is Line Side Tap inside Meter Can.

Existing System

  • Only one PV meter required
Install Reqs
  • Interconnection Customer shall install a manual load-break disconnect switch with a clear visible indication of switch position between Cooperative's electric system and Interconnection Customer's Generator
Placards
  • Interconnection Customer will install a permanent warning label in a conspicuous place in close proximity to the electric meter or on the meter base to notify them personnel that there is a generator installed on the load side of the meter. The warning label shall not be placed in a location that would interfere with the ability of Cooperative personnel to read the electric meter. Interconnection Customer shall also place a warning label on the Isolation Device. The warning labels must be in place before the Generator can be interconnected with Cooperative's System.

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with Lumbee River EMC before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
