"The nameplate rating of the Renewable Generation must be 25 kW or less.

Excess Energy shall be defined as energy produced by the consumer’s generator that exceeds the energy used by the consumer at any given time, the end result of which would be energy delivered to the Cooperative. In the event that Excess Energy was delivered to the Cooperative at the end of the billing period, the Cooperative will pay the consumer for the amount of Excess Energy delivered at the Energy Credit Rate

Energy Credit:

Excess Energy 3.47¢ per kWh

Renewable Energy Certificates:

For renewable generators served under this Rider, the Cooperative shall have the first right of refusal for any renewable energy certificates (RECs) and any environmental attributes produced as a result of the energy generated by the renewable generation. Payments and/or credits for the RECs and any environmental attributes produced as a result of the energy generated by the renewable generation shall be at the rate stated below. Prior to any payments and/or credits for RECs or any environmental attributes produced, the Renewable Generator must be registered with the North Carolina Utilities Commission using NC-RETS and notification of a REC transfer from NC-RETS must have been received by the Cooperative. Consumers receiving compensation for the RECs from the Cooperative shall not be eligible to participate in NC GreenPower’s renewable generation programs.

Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) Credit:

All RECs per month 1.00 ¢ per kWh

The Cooperative will furnish, install, own, and maintain metering to measure the kilowatthours delivered by the Cooperative to the consumer, and if applicable, the kilowatt demand. The Cooperative will also furnish, install, own, and maintain additional metering equipment to measure the kilowatt-hours delivered from the consumer to the Cooperative. The consumer’sservice may be metered with: (a) a single, bi-directional meter, which records independently the flow of electricity in each direction through the meter; or (b) at the Cooperative’s option, two meters, equipped to prevent reverse registration, one which will measure the energy delivered by the Cooperative to the consumer, and the other which will measure the energy delivered by the consumer to the Cooperative. The Cooperative shall have the right to install special metering and load research devices on the consumer’s equipment and the right to use the consumer’s telephone line for communication with the Cooperative’s and the consumer’s equipment.

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with Piedmont Electric before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
