Net Excess Generation Notes

OTEC shall allow Net Metering Facilities to be interconnected to OTEC facilities using a standard meter capable of registering the bidirectional flow of electricity. OTEC shall not charge the Member Generator separately for the bidirectional meter. OTEC may at its own expense install one or more additional meters to monitor the flow of electricity in each direction.

All net energy generated in excess of Member’s monthly net energy consumption and supplied to OTEC’s electrical supply system shall be valued at OTEC’s avoided cost. Excess usage does not roll month to month.

Plans & docs

Site Plan Reqs
  • The disconnect switch must be readily accessible to OTEC at all times and located within 10 ft. of OTEC's meter.
  • If the AC disconnect is not next to the utility meter (different structure, not in the line of sight, and etc.). A site map placard is required to show the location of the AC disconnect and the relation/distance of the AC disconnect from the meter.
SLD Reqs
  • Production Meter not required.
  • The disconnect switch must be a lockable, load-break switch that plainly indicates whether it is in the open or closed position.
Install Reqs

Installation of an automatic parallel generation disconnect safety switch is required on all net metering installations.

Placards

"Parallel Generation Onsite" metal or plastic engraved signage posted as required by the latest edition of the NEC. Permanent plaque that diagrams the location of the disconnect switch must be permanently installed adjacent to the meter.

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with Oregon Trail Electric Coop before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
