Install Reqs

Customer shall install a manual load-break disconnect switch with a clear visible indication of switch position between Company's electric system and Customer's Generator. The Isolation Device shall be installed as specified in the Interconnection Standard.

  • Disconnect installation - located within arm’s reach and visible from the meter
  • Proper signage on the disconnect and meter can
  • Additional #6 Bare ground wire that comes from the disconnect to the existing house ground
  • This ensures that there is no potential difference between the disconnect and the meter
  • Connections must be made inside the member’s breaker panel
  • No connections are to be made inside the meter base, this is considered tampering and may result in a tampering fee.
  • DO NOT LEAVE SOLAR SYSTEM ENERGIZED AFTER TESTING - the system should only be energized once AEC completes meter change
Placards

Customer will install a permanent warning label in a conspicuous place in close proximity to the electric meter or on the meter base to notify Company personnel that there is a generator installed on the load side of the meter. The warning label shall not be placed in a location that would interfere with the ability of Company personnel to read the electric meter. Customer shall also place a warning label on the Isolation Device. Company will provide the warning labels to Customer. The warning labels must be in place before the Generator can be interconnected with Company's system

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with Aiken Electric Cooperative before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
