CPS recommends 1 full year of consumption when sizing our systems, If the customer has at least 6 months, CPS requests that we inform our customers that the system may not be sized correctly. o The sales proposal that was presented to customers showing the usage estimate o A signed System Sizing Acknowledgement (blank version attached) Utility rule is 100% of the customer's consumption but we can oversize “It's not in the best interest of the customer as CPS only pays less than $0.02 for excess generation” Special Approval required if >25kW-AC >50 kW-AC = Commercial

Site Plan Reqs

ALL JOBS:

  • Equipment cannot be under an accessible window.
  • System of 25kW-AC or greater - Sealed and Signed Site Plan Required. (Texas Structural Engineering)
  • For Mobile/Manufactured Homes - The Engineer Letter stating the Roof will hold the arrays required.
  • For Breaker Tie In interconnection the PV Meter and AC Disconnect need to be adjacent to each other and within 25ft from MSP. The PV meter and the AC disconnect cannot be on the opposite sides of a fence
  • For Line Side Taps the PV Meter and AC Disconnect need to be adjacent to each other and within 10ft from MSP and the Junction Box/Tap Box must be adjacent and within 2 ft of utility meter. The PV meter and the AC disconnect cannot be on the opposite sides of a fence
  • 2nd Disconnect required when utility meter is 50ft or more from inverter-or- the Inverter is not in the line of sight of utility meter.
  • If there is a gap in the middle of an array, place an x over it to prevent the reviewer for mistaking it for a panel.
  • New PV cannot tie into existing combiner box or inverter.

BOS ELEVATION: REQUIRED ON ALL PLANS

  • Needs to be drawn from a Site Audit picture of the actual site (See Elevation Drawing Example in files section below), hand drawn/MS paint drawings not acceptable.
  • Provide a minimum of 3 site audit images.
  • Equipment cannot be under an accessible window
  • PM Meter should be 4 ft min and 6ft max from grade.
  • Conduit runs need to be shown on elevation drawing.
  • For LST add tap box.
  • Show the dimension of each piece of BOS equipment from relative grade
  • Conductors from Hoffman box to PV AC Disconnect shall be treated as service-entrance conductors and shall be as short as possible

GROUND MOUNTS:

  • All ground-mounts need disconnect at the array
  • Carport and Patio are not allowed System of 25kW-AC or greater

BATTERY JOBS:

  • One line diagram required
  • Split PV system not allowed
  • Batteries need a disconnect
  • Tesla Gateway cannot be fed from lugs in MSP
  • ESS- CPS requests an ESS disconnect on the exterior wall within 10’ of UM
  • if doing line side intercept via gateway: gateway must be adjacent and within 24" of Utility Meter.
  • disconnect or rapid shutdown required within 10' of Utility meter
SLD Reqs

ALL JOBS:

  • Sealed and Signed (Texas Electrical Engineer) detailed operational one-line diagram Required
  • PM to be wired in from the Inverter at the top and out towards the POI from the bottom
  • Please use Meter Can S/N# U7043-XL-KK-CPSB (for PV meters)
  • If the PV Meter Socket is self contained and is 480Y/277V it shall ne sandwiched between a non fused AC disco on the inverter side and a fused AC disco on the POI side Inverter>non fused AC Disco>PM>fused AC Disco>POI
  • PV Breaker tie-in not allowed on Subpanels
  • PV Breaker not allowed on Hot Bus Panel unless a Main Breaker can be sourced. Note: Utility will not allow a separate MBE to be added for hotbus panels, the main breaker must be in the same enclosure. If a breaker cannot be sourced, we will need to MPU
  • 6awg minimum conductors required from inverter to POI on all projects
  • For breaker tie-ins on Center-fed: breaker lock required.
  • MPU's must be called out as (NEW). (N) is not acceptable for CPS.
  • Utility meter must be labeled NEW if upgraded or relocated
  • "CPS ENERGY HAS ADOPTED AND AMENDED THE NEC 2020 230.67 CODE; WHOLE HOUSE SURGE PROTECTOR TO BE INSTALL FOR ALL LOAD SIDE PV INTERCONNECTIONS"

TAPS:

  • Line-Side Interconnections shall be made in a junction box or auxiliary gutter (Hoffman Box) between the MSP and the UM. Hoffman box shall be suitable for the conditions, provided with locking provisions and be sized as per the NEC but not be less than 12 inches by 12 inches.
  • Piercing Taps not allowed (Burndy)
  • Load side taps not allowed
  • Provide size of the conductor being tapped.
  • Origination GEC from the tap box should go to a separate ground rod, and not link to the existing grounding system to the MSP. However, Please leave the existing ground rod symbol on the SLD. (Tap box GEC #4 bare or sleeved )
  • CPS treats the conductors on taps as service conductors. The length of the conductors from the AC Disco to the Junction Box where the tap is made must be 10' or less in length.

BATTERIES:

  • Tesla Powerwall requires specific placards on the plan set. (see Tesla battery placards) Tesla Powerwall (see sample SLD tesla)
  • Powerwall to be located next to utility meter
  • Min conductor size from Battery to Battery Backfeed breaker is to be a minimum #8
  • Battery Disconnect is required
  • Add Note to SLD: Battery Disconnect to be on exterior wall within 10 feet of utility meter

EXISTING SYSTEMS:

  • Only one PV meter allowed per project, (E) and (N) systems to be combined.
  • EXISTING ENPHASE MICROINVERTER SYSTEMS - If the project has an existing Enphase microinverter system DO NOT add new breakers to the existing Enphase Combiner Box. A new combiner box will be required for the new system's breakers. The existing Combiner Box and the new Combiner Box will lead to a new PV Load Center. The new PV Load center will lead to the new AC Disco and on to the new PV meter.
Electric Service Reqs

MAIN PANEL:

  • Like for like upgrades do not require relocation. A new panel is considered to be like for like if the main breaker stays the same size, even if the busbar is upgraded.
  • Like for like upgrades as described above: Label the main breaker as (Existing) Only the bus rating should be labeled as (New){This only applies for main panel upgrades; main breaker kits (main breaker add on's) can be labeled as "NEW"}
  • MSP and UM can not be within 36" of the Gas Meter riser if an MPU would have a higher amperage bus bar than is existing. PV Meters and disconnects still need to be minimum 36" from the gas meter whether MPU is done or not.
  • Utility meter must be located exterior only. UM and MSP shall not be installed in locations or areas that are enclosed or that may be enclosed in the future such as patios, covered porches, and/or carports and must be relocated if they are.
  • If main service will be relocated, add note to electrical diagram "Main Service Panel to be Relocated"
  • All-In-One or meter main combo MPUs not allowed
  • These following Meter Cans are not Allowed: GE, Ring type, Stamped Hub 2" Riser required. Reducer not allowed. Meter Can will require upgrade if any of these are existing
Install Reqs

AC Disconnect: Height to the top of the operable handle needs to be 6' 7" or below PV Meter: Spacing Requirement minimum of 3' of unobstructed space in front of Meter Can. 2" Clearance around PV Meter 3' Setback from Gas Meter PV Meter must be fastened using steel fastener (Plastic Anchoring prohibited) Installation Must Match the plan. BOS Electrical Equipment Layout in the plan (it needs to be drawn from a Site Audit picture of the actual site). We have to host Utility Inspection (Commissioning) All GEC must be sleeved ie 1/2" PVC with appropriate strapping.

  • PV Meter must have CPS Thermal Stamp on the Meter Enclosure
