Plans & docs

Site Plan Reqs
  • Utility Meter and Disconnect need to be labeled on site plan
  • Solar and Battery need separate AC Disconnect switches.
  • Disconnect must be located at a readily accessible location outside the building.
SLD Reqs
  • a CT Sense is not allowed
  • If a DC disconnect switch is required, manufacturer specs for the exact make and model must be provided. Specs must show that the switch is rated for DC voltages up to 600V. The grounding electrode system must be connected to the grounding bar in the DC disconnect switch via a #8 AWG copper grounding electrode conductor.
  • For one-family and two-family dwellings, a Disconnect Switch must be located at a readily accessible location outside the building. The Switch's “off” position shall indicate that all connected PV systems are off.
  • Add this note to the AC Disco description:
  • MANUAL, VISIBLE LOAD BREAK, LOCKABLE OPEN. IN LINE OF SIGHT, [N] FT FROM UTILITY METER (replace N with integer)
  • See "EX One Line Drawing" in Files section of this page.
  • Show all sub-panels. Show neutral to sub-panels.
  • If MSP has a Blue Sticker on the dead front that says (SERVICE DISCONNECT), land the PV breaker in the slot even if the SOW does not show this. See "DCR Example" in the Files section of this page.
  • Standalone meters need automatic upgrade. Do not interconnect to the MSP in this situation. See "Standalone Meter Base" in Files section of this page.

Taps

  • Taps not allowed in meter main/combo panels

Battery Requirements

  • Add these notes to the ELD:
  • THE BATTERY SYSTEM WILL NOT BACKFEED INTO THE GRID.
  • THE BATTERY SYSTEM INCLUDES A TRANSFER SWITCH (OR EQUIVALENT) TO ENSURE PROPER ISOLATION BEFORE GOING OFF-GRID (ISLANDING).
  • Show Battery system's dedicated AC disconnect (separate from PV system's disco) and indicate its distance from the utility meter. Include manufacturer and model number
Electric Service Reqs

Stand-alone utility meters are not allowed in Utah and must be upgraded.

One manually-operated, visible load-break, lockable open, utility-accessible disconnect switch must be located within sight of and within 10 feet of the utility meter, or at a utility-approved location with acceptable signage at the utility meter indicating the location of the disconnect(s). Solar and Battery need separate disconnect switches.

Inverters must be incapable of stand-alone operation. No islanding inverters allowed. Inverters must be tested and certified by Underwriter Laboratories (UL 1741) to be non-islanding.

Certified non-islanding inverters rated 10 kW or less may be connected as is.

Certified non-islanding inverters over 10 kW require a dedicated transformer and may have other requirements depending on the installation location and local DER regulations.

Placards

Placards should have red background with white lettering. Lettering should be 3/8 inches high on all placards. Sizing may be adjusted to fit Meter Base and AC Disconnect. Install this label on all disconnects (including Battery disco) in systems 10kW and larger: MANUAL DISCONNECT FOR PARALLEL GENERATION.

Electrical Diagram Notes
  • All Jobs [AC DISCONNECT SWITCH SHALL BE A MANUAL LOAD BREAK, LOCKABLE AND ENCLOSED. IT SHALL BE USED TO ESTABLISH VISUAL OPEN WORKING CLEARANCE FOR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR WORK IN ACCORDANCE WITH RMP RULES AND PRACTICES. IT SHALL BE LOCATED WITHIN SIGHT OF AND WITHIN 10 FEET OF THE UTILITY METER, OR AT A RMP-APPROVED LOCATION WITH ACCEPTABLE SIGNAGE INDICATING THE LOCATION OF THE DISCONNECT. // THE BATTERY SYSTEM WILL NOT BACKFEED INTO THE GRID.THE BATTERY SYSTEM INCLUDES A TRANSFER SWITCH (OR EQUIVALENT) TO ENSURE PROPER ISOLATION BEFORE GOING OFF-GRID (ISLANDING).]

Battery [BATTERY SYSTEM SHALL HAVE A DEDICATED AC DISCONNECT LOCATED WITHIN 10 FT OF THE UTILITY METER OR SHALL MEET ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR APPROVAL.]

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with RMP - Rocky Mountain Power (UT) before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
