- Net Excess Generation Notes
"The meter will rotate forward to measure electricity being used from the grid, and it will reverse when the customer generates excess electricity (thereby “exporting” electricity to the electric grid). The sum, or ""net,"" of the forward and reverse rotation is the volume of electricity (kWh) to be billed or credited to the monthly bill.
Cooperative, upon written request of the net metering customer, shall enter into an agreement to purchase excess generation for the requested net metering periods at a price equal to the simple average of the Cooperative’s hourly avoidable cost of energy.
Net metering customers own the RECs associated with their renewable fuel generators. A net metering customer wishing to sell its RECs to the Cooperative may do so by exercising a one-time only option, at the time it executes the power purchase agreement with the Cooperative, to include a provision requiring the purchase by the supplier of all generated RECs over the duration of the power purchase agreement."

100% OFFSET RESTRICTION. If the utility bill on file is more than 30 days old, a new one MUST be requested PRIOR to building the system.
Sizing is restricted to the customer's past 12 months usage. System cannot produce more what the member has consumed in the past 12 months.
For individual standard residential net metering applications, the maximum generator size is 20 kW. The state of Virginia allows REC members to install net metering capacity based on REC’s peak annual load and the threshold differs between residential, non-residential, or non-jurisdictional customer classes.

Transformer Upgrades There are a lot of variables that come into play when determining if an upgrade to any of our equipment is needed, we do notify you upfront with the estimated cost. If the member decided to proceed they are billed directly and the work order is not released until payment is received, the work MUST be completed before we will approve an installation. Again these upgrades fall into the Construction department along with any other Construction that may be needed within REC, so the estimated time varies.
